The Big Damn Dog Co. in the Press

We make health supplements for the world's biggest dogs — and we're building a community around them. Here's a bit of what we've been up to.

For Media

Sarah is available for interviews, podcasts, and on-camera segments to speak on giant breed health, category creation, boot strapping an ecommerce brand, and what dogs can teach you about product development.

We're based in Boise and can usually turn around a request within 48 hours. And yes — we can bring a very large dog to the studio.

Meet Sarah

Sarah McLean got into the supplement business because her dog was too big for the instructions on the bottle.

After adopting Lucy, a 120-pound Great Dane, she realized giant breed owners were largely being asked to make do with products built for average-sized dogs. So together with her husband, they built what should have existed all along.

Today, Sarah is the co-founder and CEO of The Big Damn Dog Co., a Boise, Idaho-based company on a mission to help giant breeds live more, better years. What started with one Great Dane has grown into an award-winning brand, a nationwide community of big dog owners, and a much bigger mission to challenge the way we think about caring for the largest dogs.

Sarah approaches the pet industry like a researcher and entrepreneurship like a problem solver. She's willing to question conventional wisdom, dig into the research, and change course when the dogs tell her otherwise. Case in point: when some dogs refused to eat the company's flagship joint chews, she found a new way to deliver the support: gravy. Six months later, it was named the 2026 Dog Food Functional Topper of the Year by the Pet Innovation Awards.

She'll happily talk giant breed health, building a brand in an overlooked niche, what dogs can teach us about product development, and why the pet industry needs to stop treating a Great Dane like a Labrador with better posture.
