What Is Big Dog Walk Club?

Life with a Giant Breed is different. The food. The health concerns. The logistics. The looks you get when your dog takes up an entire restaurant patio.

That's why we started Big Dog Walk Club. To meet your people who just get it.

Once a month, we bring local giant breed owners together to move our dogs, learn something useful, swap stories, and spend a morning with people who understand exactly why your 150-pound dog still thinks they're a lap dog.

No perfect dogs required. Just big dogs and good people.

  • A RELAXED WALK

Usually around one mile, with plenty of room and no pressure to keep pace.
  • COFFEE & TREATS

Because it's morning, and we're dog people, not monsters.
  • 10 MINUTES OF BIG DOG KNOWLEDGE

Each month we tackle one practical topic that can help your big dog live more, better years.
  • YOUR PEOPLE

Meet other local owners who understand the joys, challenges, and absurdities of living with a very large dog.

Big Dog Walk Club

Because life with a 150-pound best friend is better with people who get it.

It's a walk. But that's not all...

Every Big Dog Walk Club includes a short conversation about something that can help us care for these dogs better.

Not an hour-long lecture. Not generic dog advice. Just useful information you can actually take home and use.

We've covered topics like:

Why muscle matters for giant breed mobility

Five things you may not know about your dog's food

Building calmer, more confident dogs

Everyday ways to protect mobility

Future walks will bring in veterinarians, trainers, rehabilitation professionals, nutrition experts, and more who can help us better understand the dogs at the other end of the leash.

Do I need a Giant Breed to attend?

Big Dog Walk Club was created specifically for giant and XL breeds, generally dogs over 100+ pounds at maturity.

But we're not standing at the entrance with a scale. 😉

If you love giant breeds, are considering bringing one into your family, or simply want to learn more, you're welcome to join us with or without a dog.

Great Danes • Mastiffs • Saint Bernards • Newfoundlands • Irish Wolfhounds • Great Pyrenees • Bernese Mountain Dogs • Cane Corsos • Leonbergers •

Good dogs don't have to be perfect dogs

We're here to create a comfortable environment for dogs and humans alike. That means knowing your dog and giving everyone the space they need.

A few guidelines:

  • All dogs must remain on leash.
  • Give dogs space before introducing them. Not every dog wants to say hello.
  • Skip the retractable leash. A standard leash gives everyone better control and predictability.
  • Know your dog. If your dog would rather sit this one out, come without them. We'd still love to have you.

Look for the scarves

We encourage a simple color-coded scarf system to help communicate how much space each dog needs.

🟢 GREEN: COME SAY HI
Happy to make friends. Always ask before approaching.

🟡 YELLOW: GIVE ME SPACE
My dog is more comfortable with some breathing room. Please don’t approach.

🔴 RED: PLEASE DON’T APPROACH
My dog needs plenty of space. Please don’t approach or allow your dog to greet them.

The scarves are about communication, not judgment. Every dog has different boundaries, and those can change day to day.

And if your dog would rather stay home? Come without them! You’re always welcome. 🐾

FAQ

  • Yes. Big Dog Walk Club is completely free.

  • We'd love it if you do. It helps us know how much coffee to bring and lets us communicate any weather or location changes. Just hit "going" in the Facebook Event Page!

  • Absolutely. Sometimes coming without your dog is the best choice, especially if they're reactive, recovering, young, or simply wouldn't enjoy the environment.

  • Your dog doesn't need to want to socialize with every dog they meet. We do ask that owners know their dogs, maintain control, respect everyone's space, and make choices that keep the group comfortable.

  • Generally around one mile at a relaxed pace.

  • Water for you and your dog, a standard leash, poop bags, weather-appropriate gear, and treats if they're helpful for your dog.

  • Safety wins. Always. We'll adjust the time, date, or location when necessary and communicate changes through the Facebook Event page.

  • Vaccinated puppies are welcome when they're ready for the environment, but growing giant breeds have different exercise needs than adults. You're always welcome to attend without your puppy or shorten the walk to what's appropriate for them.

Big Dog Walk Club is hosted by The Big Damn Dog Co., a Boise-based company dedicated to helping giant breed dogs live more, better years.

We build products, education, advocacy, and community around the needs of the biggest dogs because we believe they deserve more than scaled-up solutions designed for everyone else.
